User Profile Abuse

Data protection and Privacy Law

More and more data is being collected by both profiit and non-profit organizations. This information finds its way to the open internet if no special protection is put in place. The previous text is taken from a press release of March 2002, where the Data and Privacy Official of Berlin states that most companies and governments do not do enough to protect the data they collect.

With the SIRB this is less of an issue.
When the SIRB is being used infformation is stored where it belongs. This means that, for example, address information is stored at city level. Any organization in need of the address of a person contacts the SIRB with a request for the address of the person in question. Upon aproval of the person the current and most up-to-date address is made available to the requesting organization.
This applies to basically all sources of data. Banks keep account related information, Insurers keep insurance policy information, the drivers licence authorities keep drivers licence information, but they all do not keep the addresses of their customers. Their customers have given them access (limmited or unlimmited) to their correct address which is kept and maintained at only one place.

This is how the SIRB creates a network of dependend organizations that maintain links through the SIRB where each organization is responsible for the particular piece of information they own (the bank does own your bank account number, but not the money in your account) and are therefore able to manage best.
